Whereas psychology is likely to encourage us to look at our childhood or explore how we may have been victimized; Systemic Constellation Work is more of a philosophy than a modality. It focuses on the multi-generational unconscious patterns that can keep individuals and families feel trapped with various conditions such as:
- multi-generational traumas (traumas that repeat in each generation)
- financial stress
- relationship struggles (romantic and familial)
- chronic health issues
Rather than looking at the story of the individual the Systemic Constellation consultant concentrates on facts; i.e. premature deaths, abandonment, crime, suicide, financial losses, accidents, etc. As the science of epigenetics has now proven, these tragedies can exert a powerful force affecting future generations.
Family Constellations is a method which employs group or individual processes to resolve or bring perspective to physical and / or emotional issues rooted in multi-generational patterns. This multidimensional approach taps into the systemic field of the family system through “the knowing field”.
Family Constellation Work helps to end these destructive family patterns of unhappiness. Sometimes the results are immediate and life changing. The Family Constellation Approach is becoming one of the most rapidly expanding forms of therapy in the world and is practised in more than 30 countries.
This powerful process gives insights into persistent present day problems with long term and often life changing results.
Although, family Constellations is inspired by the work of Bert Hellinger, and its main roots may be traced back to the Zulus, its western roots can be traced back to Carl Jung.
“Nothing has a stronger influence psychologically on their environment and especially on their children than the unlived life of the parent.”
“I feel very strongly that I am under the influence of things or questions which were left incomplete and unanswered by my parents and grandparents and more distant ancestors. It often seems as if there were an impersonal karma within a family which is passed on from parents to children. It has always seemed to me that I had to answer questions which fate had posed to my forefathers, and which had not yet been answered, or as if I had to complete, or perhaps continue, things which previous ages had left unfinished.” Memories, Dreams, Reflections.
Hellinger was first introduced to the collaborative relationship between ancestors and their present day descendants while working in South Africa with the Zulus. Later when he decided to study psychology he was influenced by:
- Murray Bowen
- Virginia Satir
- Salvador Minuchin
- The MRI Group of Palo Alto
- The Milan Group
- Jay Haley
- Fred & Bunny Duhl and David Kantor
- Don Juan Matus
Guelph’s History with Family Constellations:
In 2008 a group of interested individuals from Guelph traveled to Ottawa to attend their monthly Learning Circles. In September, members of the Ottawa group were invited to Guelph to lead a Constellation workshop. A big thank you to Dr. Eddy Beltran for making this possible. After training with Bert Hellinger and Carola Castillo, Rosalba Stocco, along with a committed group launched Guelph Family Constellations with the guidance of Hellinger-Canada-Ottawa. Rosalba continued to learn with other Master Facilitators . She incorporated and integrated the learnings from her many teachers from a variety of disciplines to introduce the Systemic Constellations Work 101 – Introduction -Develop a Stronger Leadership Role as You Take Your Place in The Family
